I apologize for being so remiss in updating this blog - it's been a crazy month! Next Meeting: Thursday, May 4

Happy Good Friday! Though our next meeting of the Group was scheduled for April 27, due to a schedule conflict that just came to my attention we are going to reschedule our meeting for Thursday, May 4. The time (6:30-8:00pm) and the location (the Parish Center Fireplace Room) remain the same! Please join us, and spread the word about the schedule change!

This morning I encountered the following words of wisdom from Dietrich Bonhoeffer, which I share with you in the spirit of Good Friday: 

Whoever enters discipleship enters Jesus' death, and puts his or her own life into death; this has been so from the beginning. The cross is not the horrible end of a pious, happy life, but stands rather at the beginning of community with Jesus Christ.

May all of us who suffer from mental and physical afflictions remember that our suffering is never an end, but always points with hope towards the Resurrection.

Next Meeting: Thursday, March 30

Please join us for the next meeting of the Saint Agnes Depression Support Group this Thursday, March 30, at 6:30pm in the Fireplace Room of the Parish Center. As we journey through Lent, we recall the salvific suffering of our Lord and seek to unite our suffering to His, knowing that He walks with us every step of the way. Together we will celebrate this holy season in prayerful meditation and solidarity with each other and with all those who suffer from depression. We look forward to seeing you, getting to know you, and praying with you tomorrow night!

Next Meeting: January 26, 2017

Happy New Year to all! Our prayers are already with you, that you may continue to walk towards healing and hope in 2017. Our January meeting will be held this Thursday, the 26th, at 6:30pm in the Fireplace Room of the Saint Agnes Parish Center. Please join us for an evening of warm fellowship in the midst of this winter cold! We look forward to seeing you there.

Please join us tomorrow, December 22, at 6:30pm in the Parish Center Fireplace Room for the December meeting of the Saint Agnes Depression Support Group. Together we'll share prayer and fellowship as we travel on the road towards healing and peace this Advent season.

Next Meeting: Thursday, November 17

Due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, our regularly scheduled meeting will be held a week early this month, on Thursday, November 17. We will be meeting at 6:30pm in the Saint Agnes Parish Center Fireplace Room. Please join us for an evening of peace, prayer, fellowship, and healing as we head into Advent. Hope to see you there!

Next Meeting: September 29!

I hope that everyone has had a peace-filled, grace-filled month! We will meet this month on Thursday, September 29 at 6:30pm in the Fireplace Room of the St. Agnes Parish Center. Our meeting day also happens to be the Feast of the Holy Archangels (or Michaelmas, as it's traditionally and delightfully called). Wherever you are in your own battle with depression, I invite you to invoke the powerful aid of St. Michael:

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

My apologies for the delayed posting, but our next meeting will be held tomorrow, Thursday, June 30, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Parish Center Fireplace Room. We look forward to seeing you there!

Also, the Boston Globe Spotlight team recently investigated the state of mental health care in Massachusetts since the mass closing of public psychiatric hospitals. The Globe, while acknowledging the need to close such hospitals, argues that the state has failed to provide viable alternatives, and concludes: "By almost any measure, Massachusetts has lost the leadership role it once had in mental health care." A must-read for anyone who cares about the state of mental health care in this state and country!

My apologies to everyone for canceling last month's meeting.  An unexpected turn happened in my pregnancy, and my baby arrived two weeks early!  I thank you for your ongoing prayers on our behalf.  I hope everyone had a merry Christmas and a lovely New Year.

With the holidays behind us, we will resume meeting on the last Thursday of the month.  Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 29, 2015, from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the Parish Center Fireplace Room.  Please join us as we usher in a new year of hope, healing, and support!
